The rich Arousa Sea
Vilanova's ancient salting factories have become a modern canning industry exporting the delicious Arousa's mussel all over the world.
Spanish writer Ramon Maria del Valle Inclan was born in Vilanova, in the Pazo de Cuadrante, from the XVIth century, built on an old fortress and declared as Historical Monument and, nowadays, museum.
Other interesting examples of civil and religious architecture are the Casa de Xulio Camba, the Arnelas bridge, the Pazo de Rua Nova in Andras, the church of Santa Maria and the tower of Miranda in Caleiro.

Vilanova, old village
In spite of its name (New Village), this place has a long history to tell. Paleolithic pieces were found here, in Sinas beach, and Bronze Age's ones were found in Tremoedo and Baion. From Roman Empire, we preserve the Padriños Bridge, in Ponte Arnelas, and a 700 roman coins treasure found in Tremoedo.
In VIIth century, monk San Fructuoso built here Calago monastery.This monastery was destroyed during vinking invasions in IXyh and Xth century, but its foundations were used to build the old parish church.
Xanfardan tower ruins, in Tremoedo, shows that normands and galician battled here, trying to defend Santiago de Compostela.
Vilanova has also natural atraction places, like the Umia river forest and the Lobeira viewing-point, in András. Vilanova has famous beaches like As Sinas and O Terrón, both of them with more than a sand quilometre and without wind.
If we talk about festivals, there ae a lot of them in summer. Maybe the most popular is religious Corpus Chrsti, in june, and Internacional Pilgrimage, in july. Besides these, this Council organizes in august its own Mussel Festival and Cockle Festival were tourists can enjoy all these marvellous gastronomic plates.
